Hairspray musical comes to Blackpool.
From December 13th through to January 2nd the Hairspray Musical Uk tour hits Blackpool Winter Gardens …….and we have been lucky enough to see it!
Now, if musicals aren’t your thing, we’d urge you to give this particular show a go. A captivating storyline interspersed with up beat music makes for a really good show the entire family can enjoy.
Staring John Thomson who you may remember from ‘Cold Feet’ and ‘The Fast Show’ – he also narrates ‘Bargain loving Brits in Blackpool’…. wonder if he’s tried the £1 burger yet? ….along with the amazing vocal talents of Brenda Edwards who has also appeared in other musicals such as ‘Chicago’, ‘We will Rock You’ along with appearances on ‘Loose women’ and ‘Songs of praise’ and west end legend Alex Bourne.
About the show.
The storyline is set in the 60s and follows Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and a bigger personality as she tries to fulfil her dream and dance her way onto national TV with The Nicest Kids In Town.
The show has a theme of racial prejudice in the 60s without getting too deep or heavy. Tracy fights for quality using her new found fame finding love with local the heart throb Link Larkin along the way.
The show features some seriously catchy numbers such as Welcome To The 60s, You Can’t Stop The Beat, Good Morning Baltimore and so many more that will stick in your head for days to come!
All staged in the magnificent Winter Gardens Opera House, which is a breath taking venue with it’s history and magnificent architecture, there’s no reason not to go along with the whole family to experience this fun filled, up beat musical extravaganza! If our experience is anything to go by, we’d expect this to be packed out every night, the standing ovation at the end says it all 🙂
